Bella’s Air Fried Hanger Steak

The air fryer is an excellent tool for cooking hanger steak, as the intense circulation of hot air helps to render the exterior fat while keeping the coarse, flavorful grain of the meat incredibly tender. By allowing the steak to reach room temperature before cooking, you ensure that the center stays succulent and juicy while the outside develops a beautiful, seasoned crust. It is a convenient, hands-off way to enjoy this butcher-favorite cut without the smoke and splatter of a stovetop pan.

Ingredients

  • 1 hanger steak approximately 1 to 1.5 pounds
  • Salt and seasonings to taste (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F and allow it to run empty for 5 to 10 minutes to ensure the basket is thoroughly hot.
  • While the air fryer preheats, pat the hanger steak dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and any desired spices. Allow the steak to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  • Place the seasoned steak into the center of the air fryer basket. Cook at 400°F for 10 to 12 minutes.
  • To ensure an even sear on both sides, carefully flip the steak halfway through the cooking time (at the 5 to 6 minute mark).
  • Remove the steak from the air fryer and transfer it to a cutting board. Let the meat rest undisturbed for 5 to 7 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
  • Slice the steak thinly against the grain to break up the long muscle fibers, ensuring every bite is tender. Serve warm. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
